Advancing Sustainable Design in Recreational Trails and Embankments Presented by Cory Schneider

trails webinar

Trails and greenways play a vital role in communities by preserving and creating open spaces for low- or no-cost outdoor recreation. Trails designed with permeable surfaces rather than traditional concrete or asphalt allow for better environmental and stormwater management. Since recreational trails can be designed for a wide range of uses, including motorized and non-motorized traffic, it’s important to utilize a solution that is durable and flexible. In this webinar, we will explore a variety of soil stabilization and porous pavement products that can be tailored to the needs of individual projects—including those with hard-to-access areas and stormwater concerns. Multiple types of infill and anchoring methods allow for project customization, resulting in low-maintenance and attractive trails for years to come. Trail embankment stabilization is another consideration when designing recreational trails. The embankments may be part of the existing natural terrain or result from cuts made to accommodate the construction of the new trails. Depending on embankment steepness, the GEOWEB® System can be used to stabilize slopes with single-layer protection or near-vertical, tiered retaining walls with a vegetated fascia. GEOWEB green slopes and living walls protect against erosion, reduce stormwater runoff, and create a natural environment for sustainable vegetation. Learning Objectives:… Read more »

Unlocking the Power of Geocells: VE Solutions for Mine Infrastructure Presented by José Pablo George

mining webinar

In this webinar, we will explore solutions to a number of challenges faced by the mining industry. We will discuss how the GEOWEB®  3D Soil Stabilization System offers a better approach to soil stability challenges when accessing sites over soft ground; controlling and containing stormwater; protecting geomembranes from basins, tailing, and heap leach pads; and reclaiming slopes at the time of closure. Through 3D confinement and the strengthening of infill, less material is required and on-site waste rock can be used. The GEOWEB system offers increased speed of operation, lower maintenance, safer installation, and lower total cost of ownership. Learning Objectives: Understand the benefits of geocellular confinement for high-performing, long-lasting mine infrastructure. Explore mine applications for geocells in haul road, slope, channel, and containment pond solutions. Learn how 3D geocellular confinement can produce higher performance and lower maintenance mine site solutions.

Designing Resilient and Cost-Effective Stormwater Channels Presented by Sam Justice, P.E.

Learn how the GEOWEB® Channel Protection System offers an innovative solution to channel erosion. High-flow environments pose a risk of soil and rock washout, leading to uncontrolled water flow and landscape degradation. Traditional methods like riprap and concrete are often costly and labor-intensive. The GEOWEB system presents a versatile alternative, adaptable to a range of infill materials that cater to both functional requirements and aesthetic preferences, effectively countering hydraulic stresses. Discover the economic and installation benefits of the GEOWEB system. Its design versatility accommodates low to high flow conditions, ensuring stability across various erosive scenarios. By allowing the use of local materials and negating the necessity for internal reinforcements, the GEOWEB system reduces overall costs and simplifies installation. The system is engineered to sustain high-velocity water flow and is particularly efficient in energy dissipation, which is crucial for maintaining integrity on steep gradients. Learning Objectives: Understand the benefits of GEOWEB channel protection from accredited research and testing. Designing Soft-Armored & Hard-Armored Retaining Walls Presented by Sam Justice, P.E.

Retaining wall systems are used to hold back earth and achieve grade separation between two adjacent points at different elevations. There are many types of retaining wall systems, including concrete, steel, gabions, sheet piling, and reinforced soil. The GEOWEB® Retaining Wall System, in general, belongs to the reinforced soil category. Depending on the slope angle and site conditions, retaining walls are commonly referred to as gravity walls, reinforced walls, or reinforced soil slopes. The GEOWEB Retaining Walls make it possible to stabilize soil at the face of the wall or slope with a naturally vegetated fascia. The GEOWEB system’s open-celled terraces create a natural environment for sustainable vegetation and allow stormwater infiltration. The GEOWEB walls conform well to landscape contours, are resistant to environmental degradation, and install 25-30% faster than MSE block walls. Learning Objectives: Learn about the different types of retaining wall systems that can be built with the GEOWEB system. Understand the design of the GEOWEB System for various wall and reinforcement types, applications, and site conditions. Learn about unique system features and what sets GEOWEB Retaining Walls apart from other types of walls. Learn about the free design tools and software offered by Presto Geosystems for retaining… Read more »
