Managing Stormwater Through Green Infrastructure & Low Impact Development Presented by Sam Justice

Today’s increasingly stringent environmental regulations continue to create the need for Low Impact Development (LID) and Green Infrastructure (GI) management on project sites. New and innovative methods must be used to limit hard surfaces such as parking lots, walkways, and emergency access lanes. Land access is at a premium, and areas of environmental protection are increasing, requiring builders and engineers to work with regulators to utilize both LID and GI practices. Porous pavements are an easy and economical way to reduce the impervious surfaces on-site and restore the natural water cycle close to its source. Porous pavements have the added benefit of reducing the size of above-ground detention ponds and minimizing conveyance and treatment infrastructure. Stormwater diversion channels, roadside swales, and drainage ditches can be constructed with low-maintenance solutions, protecting against erosion and overflow concerns. Living green walls increase the amount of vegetation on-site, help promote water filtration from higher elevations, and allow access to more valuable land. Learning Objectives: Learn what Low Impact Development and Green Infrastructure mean for residential and commercial project sites. Gain an understanding of the regulations governing these practices and how they have been met with traditional construction methods. Learn about porous pavement options and… Read more »

Building Resilient Oil & Gas Roads and Pads Using Geocells Presented by Bryan Wedin, P.E.

When unpaved roads, drill pads, and work platforms are constructed over weak subgrades, base deterioration can lead to degradation. This degradation leads to unwanted deflections, rutting, and ultimately failure of the surface layer. The GEOWEB® Soil Stabilization System significantly reduces the vertical pressure reaching the subgrade, provides a high-stiffness foundation and reduces cross-section thickness up to 50% or more. Increasing the load capacity of the subgrade allows it to effectively handle heavy vehicle and drill rig loads while reducing maintenance cost. Learning Objectives: Understand the benefits of using the GEOWEB Soil Stabilization System to stabilize surfaces for unpaved roads, drill pads, and work platforms using low-quality fill or sand. Discover how 3D-confined base material reduces cross-section depth and provides a more stable base, especially over soft subgrade soils. Learn how the GEOWEB system reduces vertical pressure and subbase movement. Learn how the GEOWEB system performs effectively when subject to heavy vehicle and drill rig loadings.

Modern Designing of Stormwater Channels Using the GEOWEB® System Presented by Sam Justice, P.E.

Channels subjected to high flows and associated shear stresses are susceptible to washout of natural soils and rock, which leads to uncontrolled water movement and further degradation. Typical riprap and concrete protection can be expensive and difficult to install. The GEOWEB® channels may be designed with a variety of infill materials to meet aesthetic requirements and resist anticipated hydraulic flows and associated stresses. The GEOWEB® Channel Protection System provides a variety of economical and flexible protection treatments for open channels and hydraulic structures. The system delivers stability and protection for channels exposed to erosive conditions ranging from low to high flows—either intermittent or continuous. The GEOWEB system—which can be filled with topsoil, aggregate, or concrete—lowers costs for stormwater control by utilizing on-site materials and eliminating the need for internal reinforcement. The GEOWEB channels can withstand high-velocity flow over long channels, and the ability to incorporate energy dissipation allows the GEOWEB system to successfully perform when applied along steep slopes. Learning Objectives: Understand the benefits of GEOWEB channel protection from accredited research and testing. Learn how the GEOWEB confinement system can accommodate typical construction issues and design problems. Understand the typical applications for GEOWEB channel protection and how to utilize on-site… Read more »

Designing Sustainable Trails and Embankments with Porous Pavements, Stabilized Slopes and Green Walls Presented by Cory Schneider

Trails and greenways play a vital role in communities by preserving and creating open spaces for low or no-cost outdoor recreation. Trails designed with permeable surfaces rather than traditional concrete or asphalt allow for better environmental and stormwater management. Since recreational trails can be designed for a wide range of uses, including motorized and non-motorized traffic, it’s important to utilize a solution that is durable and flexible. In this webinar, we will explore a variety of soil stabilization and porous pavement products that can be tailored to the needs of individual projects—including those with hard-to-access areas and stormwater concerns. Multiple types of infill and anchoring methods allow for project customization, resulting in low-maintenance and attractive trails for years to come. Trail embankment stabilization is another consideration when designing recreational trails. The embankments may be part of the existing natural terrain or result from cuts made to accommodate the construction of the new trails. Depending on embankment steepness, the GEOWEB® 3D system can be used to stabilize slopes with single-layer protection or near-vertical, tiered retaining walls with a vegetated fascia. GEOWEB green slopes and walls protect against erosion, reduce stormwater runoff, and create a natural environment for sustainable vegetation. Learning Objectives:… Read more »

Improving Infrastructure Resilience: Permanent Stabilization for Roads, Highways and Bridges Presented by José Pablo George

Infrastructure development for highways and road corridors faces many challenges when it comes to project design and construction. Building asphalt or concrete roadways over soft soils requires thick base layers of expensive stone, and pavement surfaces often fail just a few years after installation. Expanding road width requires steepening corridor embankments, leading to potential slope failure that can cause road closures and damage. Stormwater management alongside roads is an increasingly common concern due to limited construction space and larger storm events. Presto Geosystems provides cost-effective, low-maintenance, quality solutions for all of these potential issues using our GEOWEB® 3D Soil Stabilization System. In this webinar, we will discuss how to utilize these solutions to address the challenges of aging infrastructure. Learning Objectives: Acquire insights into the innovative methods through which Presto Geosystems’ products can provide enduring stability solutions for roadways and their surrounding environments. Comprehend the performance of geocells under the most challenging soil conditions. Explore various geocell applications and understand their potential usage within roadway corridors. Learn how to employ geocells for effective stormwater runoff management alongside roads, thereby extending pavement lifespan

Extend the Life of Paved & Unpaved Roadways With the GEOWEB System Presented by Sam Justice

When paved and unpaved roadway surfaces are built over weak subgrades, base deterioration can lead to degradation. This causes unwanted deflections, rutting, and cracking in the surface layer. Using the GEOWEB® Soil Stabilization System reduces the vertical pressure on roadways and provides a high-stiffness foundation. This increases the load capacity of the subgrade allowing it to more effectively handle heavy and repeated vehicle leads. In the base layer under hard pavements, confinement of aggregate significantly reduces movement and settlement, increasing the life of the pavement. Unpaved roadways also benefit from a more stable surface that performs as an on-site stormwater “detention” basin, promoting infiltration at the source and reducing runoff. Learning Objectives: Understand the benefits of using the GEOWEB Soil Stabilization System to stabilize surfaces for unpaved roads using low-quality fill. Discover how 3D-confined base material reduces cross-section and provides a more stable base, especially over soft subgrade soils. Learn how the GEOWEB system reduces vertical pressure and subbase movement. Learn how to design pavement that will help meet on-site stormwater regulations and low environmental impact goals.
